Accessible Sailing - Sailability Ireland

Sailability Ireland is the new name for the Irish Disabled Sailing Association, who promote sailing for people with disabilities. Here at the ISA we aim to support this organisation to achieve its objectives in developing training and promoting sailing in Ireland.

Our aims are :

  • To provide the necessary support for people with disabilities to sail.
  • Encourage sailing as an activity, primarily for pleasure, but also to facilitate those who desire to develop their competitive potential.
  • Train volunteers, sailors, instructors, family and friends to facilitate sailors with disabilities to enjoy our sport.
  • Develop and foster team spirit between able bodied and those with disabilities, through leisure and competitive sailing.

The Role of the ISA

The ISA have 2 types of training modules to facilitate the organisation of sailing for people with disabilities.

1. Sailability Awareness Workshop: This is a 3hr workshop with an equal mix of theory and practical exercises to experience how you can work with people with disabilities and adapt sailing activities to ensure a more inclusive and positive experience occurs in your club or teaching establishment.

4. Sailability Inclusion Training Course : This is a 1 Day Certificate Course, approved by Coaching Ireland and designed by the ISA and CARA to facilitate Sailing. It encompasses all aspects of disabled sailing, including specialised boats, coaching styles, Paralympic and Special Olympic Pathways and a practical session with simulation or sailors with disabilities when possible.

Courses are scheduled throughout the Winter and Spring as advertised here or can be ran on demand.
