Sailing Yachts

What is a Sailing Yacht?

Sailing Yachts are sailing boats with accommodation.  This means that you can eat and sleep on board with friends and family.  Because of their size and accommodation Sailing Yachts offer huge flexibility; overnight trips, holidays as well as competitive racing are all possible.  Their larger size means ownership is a bigger commitment however, due to their size people are always looking for crew to help sail the boat.

Where Should I Go to Start Sailing?

There are many ISA accredited Training Centres and Clubs around the coast who offer a range of sailing courses for both beginners and the more experienced sailor.

What is the Best Course for Me?

Competent Crew
A great introduction to the world of big boat sailing! This course is as much about getting to grips with living aboard a cruising boat as it is about learning to sail.

Day Skipper (Sail)

All of the skills and knowledge you need to skipper a sailing yacht on day trips.  Ideal for those new to sailing yachts, new boat owners and as preparation for flotilla holidays.

Yachtmaster Coastal (Sail)
The "on the water" part of the Yachtmaster Coastal training. This course will move sailors onto trips around the coast and across the Irish Sea.  As well as introducing you to sailing at night this course prepares you for the Yachtmaster Coastal Assessment.

A call to your local ISA Training Centre or Club would help you decide which course would best suit your needs.

What Should I Bring?

The ISA Training Centre or Club where you will do your course will normally provide all the equipment you need.  You should bring the following with you:

•    Warm clothes;
•    Sun/woolly hat;
•    Waterproof jacket; and
•    A buoyancy aid* (if you have one).

*All ISA Training Centres can normally supply these.

Again, you can chat to your local ISA Training Centre or Club when you are booking your place on a course and they will advise you on what they can supply and what you will need to bring.
